Lent is a season that invites us into the desert — into reflection, sacrifice, and ultimately, transformation. It’s a time when we confront the hard places in our lives and allow God to meet us there.
For Adriana, that desert wasn’t symbolic. It was deeply real.
“I’ve been catholic my whole life!”
Like many young Catholics, Adriana had received the sacraments (Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation), but her faith didn’t fully come alive until she walked through a season of pain.

Meeting God in the Darkness
Lent reminds us that suffering is never wasted when it leads us closer to Christ. Adriana experienced this firsthand.
“What drew me closer to God and our church was actually when I was in a dark place.”
In a time when she felt isolated and overwhelmed, Adriana found herself in an unhealthy relationship. Without close friends to turn to and with her mom often working, she faced this struggle largely alone.
But she wasn’t truly alone.
“The only person I had to get me through it was the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
A Personal Relationship with God
One of the most powerful invitations of Lent is to deepen our personal relationship with God — not just knowing about Him, but truly knowing Him.
Adriana leaned into that relationship in a raw, honest way:
“I talked, cried, laughed and sang a lot with God and mother Mary.”
This is what a living faith looks like. Not perfect. Not polished. But real.
In those moments of vulnerability, Adriana encountered a God who listens, comforts, and restores.

Freedom, Healing, and Peace
Lent ultimately leads us to Easter — to resurrection, freedom, and new life.
For Adriana, that resurrection came in the form of healing and clarity:
“Thanks only to them I got out of that relationship and I’m at peace with myself and everyone around me.”
Her story is a reminder that God doesn’t just meet us in our suffering — He leads us out of it.
A Shift in Perspective
As Adriana grew closer to God, her understanding of what truly matters began to change.
“What I would do with my rewards is share with my youth group…”
Her faith became outward-focused. Rooted not in what she could gain, but in what she could give.
“I know that I don’t need to be with everything since what will I bring with me to Heaven when I’m gone?”
This perspective echoes the heart of Lent: detachment from the temporary and a deeper focus on the eternal.
Lent Is an Invitation. Just Like Adriana Accepted
Adriana’s story is a powerful reminder that faith isn’t about having it all together. It’s about turning to God, especially when everything feels like it’s falling apart.
Lent invites each of us into that same surrender.
To bring our struggles to God.
To let Him meet us there.
To trust that He can bring peace on the other side.
You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
Adriana found strength in her relationship with God, but also in her youth group community. And that kind of support can make all the difference, especially during seasons like Lent.
Whether you’re in a place of peace or walking through something difficult right now, you’re not meant to do it alone.
