Today, history was made. The bells of St. Peter’s rang out, and white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel, announcing to the world that the Church has a new shepherd: Pope Leo XIV.

An American. A missionary. A son of Chicago who became a servant to the poor in Peru. A guide to bishops. And now, successor to St. Peter.

This moment carries weight far beyond borders. It reminds us that the Holy Spirit is alive and active, often moving in quiet places, raising up

leaders not for comfort, but for the courage to lead in uncertain times.

Pope Leo XIV steps into the Chair of Peter at a time when the world is hungry: for meaning, for mercy, for hope. And the Church, though battered and imperfect, remains a lighthouse in the storm.

His election is a call to unity. A reminder that faith is not bound by culture, nation, or age—but rooted in the Gospel, entrusted anew to each generation.

For those of us called to walk with young people, this is a moment to lift our eyes. To remember the sacred responsibility we carry. And to recommit ourselves—not just to programs or platforms—but to forming disciples, building bridges, and answering the call to follow Christ wherever He leads.

May Pope Leo XIV be blessed with wisdom, strength, and the grace to lead the Church with clarity and compassion.

And may we, the faithful, rise to meet this moment—with open hands, open hearts, and the courage to walk forward in faith.

    Viva il Papa.

    Viva Cristo Rey.

Peace be with all of you,
