Right after she got home, she opened her email and wrote to the priests at St. Isidore's to ask if they could get coffee. That email started something new. But her story begins a year earlier. Morgan says she arrived at K-State with "little to no direction in my faith." Many students start college the same way. Most do not walk away from God on purpose. They drift, because no one has asked them in. [Morgan's story shows what can happen when someone does.](https://connection.newmanministry.com/find-a-campus/) ## One invitation from a friend By her second year, something had changed. "At the beginning of my sophomore year, I craved more," Morgan says. "I wanted to know Jesus. I wanted to form the deepest connection with Him." Then a friend asked her to come to Mass. "My friend invited me to our Catholic Church, St. Isidore's," she says. "Immediately, I felt at home." There was no flyer and no big event. One student noticed and asked. That is often how it starts. ## Coffee and one big question "When I got home from my first Mass, I emailed the priests asking to get coffee," Morgan says. They wrote back right away. "Immediately, we set up a time and met up." She did not make small talk. "The first thing to come out of my mouth was, 'How can I become Catholic?'" The priests gave her the next two steps. They signed her up for OCIA, the classes for adults who want to become Catholic. She did not have to prove anything first. "Although I was just getting started, everyone welcomed me with open arms and love," she says. Then she went to SEEK, a national Catholic conference for college students. She puts it simply: "I attended SEEK and was transformed completely." The change has lasted. "I have grown such a strong faith and such strong relationships with our Newman center members and priests," Morgan says. ## Why Catholic campus ministry matters Look at who showed up in Morgan's story. A friend who invited her. Priests who answered her email right away. Students at the Newman Center who made room for someone new. None of them waited for Morgan to find her own way. College is when many young people decide who they will be. They leave home, family, and their home parish behind. Faith either becomes their own or quietly fades. Campus ministers, priests, and student leaders are the ones who change that. They learn names. They answer emails. They pull up a chair. For a student like Morgan, that can be the difference between drifting and coming home. ## Faith Forward: an invitation before day one Morgan's invitation came in her sophomore year because one friend noticed.
