When students graduate from high school, many also graduate from their faith community without realizing it. Newman Connection exists to change that—and Andres Lopez is living proof of what’s possible when connection continues.

“Hello, my name is Andres Lopez and I want to share my experience in the Catholic Faith and what the Newman Ministry has done for me.”

Andres grew up in a strong Catholic family, receiving the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. His love for the faith grew through his parish, San Pedro De Jesus Maldonado, where he now teaches First Communion students as a catechist.

When Andres began college at the University of Texas at El Paso, he found a new spiritual home at the San Romero University Ministry Student Center, part of the Newman Ministry network.

“They are nothing short of amazing. I’ve joined them for Sunday Mass, gone to Confession, and found the same peace I feel in my home parish. The Newman Ministry is amazing for what it has to offer, and I’m glad to see its growth and engagement with the community.”

Through this connection, Andres discovered that his faith could thrive—not just survive—on campus. His story reflects what we hear from students nationwide: when someone reaches out, students stay connected to Christ and His Church.
